Musical Biography
Music has surrounded and inspired me for as long as I can remember. It has been a central part of my life since I was a teenager at the latest. I discovered more and more facets of different musical genres and realized that very different types of music can fulfil or take on a variety of functions for me. This is how I learned to interact with the world through music. Years later, not least because of this self-awareness, I wrote my master's thesis on this topic, in which I investigated the influence of music on the socialization of young people.
As a teenager, I realized that the wind instrument (baritone horn) I had already learned in my childhood and early youth did not allow me to express musically what I wanted or felt, so I gradually developed the desire to make the kind of music that I listened to myself and that surrounded me every day. Therefore, in the summer of 2004, I began to teach myself to play the guitar. Soon I also started singing and playing the harmonica. As I got older, I noticed that the lyrics of a song became more and more important to me when listening to music. As a result, I became increasingly interested in musical genres in which they play a prominent role, such as folk, folk rock and indie folk. This personal observation and my research into various protest movements during my sociology studies then prompted me to examine the influence of the folk greats Joan Baez and Bob Dylan on the protest movements against the Vietnam War in relation to their music and lyrics in my bachelor's thesis.
In 2010, I started writing my first lyrics and composing my own songs, and it quickly became clear to me that I wanted to write them in English, as I mostly listen to English-language music myself and consider this language to be more melodic in a musical context. After a short phase during my Master's program, in which, as briefly mentioned at the beginning, I also studied music and its effect on people in theory, but didn't make much music of my own, I moved to Berlin after graduating in 2016. Here I started playing at open stages and writing songs again.
In addition to writing and composing my own songs, I enjoy decoding songs by other musicians that I like to listen to myself and that touch or appeal to me in some way. From this I then try to create versions of the songs that I can play alone with acoustic guitar and vocals. You can see what this looks like in practice on my YouTube channel.
Music has served as a refuge (safe space) for me all my life. It helps me to process, explore and express things and feelings. Whether in my own room or on stage. My intention as a singer-songwriter is to be an intermediary or messenger of thoughts and sounds. I'm happy when I can inspire people to think, to feel things or to allow feelings in general. I try to pass on what music gives me to others and share it with them. As my taste in music spans very different genres, my own songwriting is also influenced musically from different directions. When composing my songs, I don't follow any clearly defined rules or a specific structural song structure. That's why my songs rarely have a chorus in the classic sense and are usually relatively long.
Lyrically, my songwriting draws on my own life experiences as well as literature, philosophy and socio-political issues. My songs explore human longings, desires, fears, dreams, world-weariness, love and melancholy. I examine the individual level of being human as well as various social challenges and aspects.
I do not have a clear, unambiguous answer to all issues and challenges in my songs, but rather a lot of questions. Therefore, the title of my first album, which was released on April 4, 2025, is appropriately Questions To The World.
